CULTURAL REFLECTION IN CHART KORBJITTI'S NOVEL THE JUDGMENT: FROM LITERATURE TO MOVIE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Chart Korbjitti's novel The Judgment is considered as one of the most prominent works in modern Thai literature. By applying an interdisciplinary research method and comparative method in literary film adaptation theory, the results show that The Judgment has profoundly reflected the cultural age in which this novel presents, including: 1) The concerns with traditional cultural - ethical values; 2) The human philosophies related to existentialism. I-Fak, the cinematic adaptation of The Judgment, has inherited and transformed those contents in a very own way, through the intertwining of protest discourse and the questioning of existential values through cinematic language. This article also explains the similarities and the differences in the way of expressions of cultural reflection in The Judgment and I-Fak, based on the socio-cultural context in which they were born.
