Abstract

The historic victory of Dien Bien Phu forced the French colonialists to sign 1954 Geneva Agreements on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. Under the provisions of the 1954 Geneva Agreements, the People's Army of Vietnam was to withdraw from provisional assembly areas to a regrouping zone north of the demarcation line within 300 days. The article focuses on investigating the activities of gatherings and transferring soldiers of the revolutionary arm forces at Xuyen Moc – Ba Ria, which was the gathering area with the shortest time (80 days). The research shows that despite facing many difficulties caused by the enemy, thanks to the leadership and careful preparations of local authorities at all levels, the troop gathering activities at Xuyen Moc – Ba Ria took place safely, successfully, and timely. This provided lessons for the gathering areas of Cao Lanh (100 days) and Chac Bang – Ca Mau (200 days) and established a solid foundation for the arm forces' preparations against the US for national salvation later.
