Abstract

Successfully building heroic characters is one of the important goals in post-1986 Vietnamese historical novels. Considering historical novels under a discourse theory, it can be seen that in each novel work, each heroic character is a conception, a statement of the writer, associated with the subject, content, context, and speech purpose. The article delves into the diversity, richness, and characteristics of heroic characters in post-1986 Vietnamese historical novels from the perspective of a discourse theory. Looking at historical novels as historical discourses, it was found that heroic characters are often built from different perspectives, creating three trends in depicting and expressing the main character's image: 1) Hero character from the perspective of the same direction with history, 2) Hero character from a complementary perspective, dialogue with history, 3) Hero character from the perspective of deepening, exploring individual people private life.
