Abstract

The 2018 General Education Curriculum issued by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam highligts the importance of adopting active teaching methods to promote student autonomy and creativity. Within this context, educational games have emerged as effective tools for increasing learner engagement and motivation. This paper presents the design of a mathematical game titled “Đường Đua Số Nguyên” (The Integer Race), developed to support Grade 6 students in practicing operations with integers. Adapted from the French game Relatron, the game integrates elements of chance and strategy to foster interest and active participation.. Data collected from a pedagogical experiment, involving 32 students at a lower secondary school in Ho Chi Minh City, included game session reports and video recordings. The results reveal the potential of mathematical games to not only motivate students to voluntarily practice a large number of exercises but also encourages the discovery of computational rules through experiential learning.
