Abstract
Vietnamese students usually face some difficulties when learning the Chinese language, in particular, in reading and writing skills, the most difficult skills for beginners. At the Chinese Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, students began to study reading-writing skills in the second year for two semesters. It was observed that more than 200 students encountered some kinds of difficulties in reading – writing skills. To motivate students and to help them overcome the difficulties, this paper emphasizes the importance of teaching vocabulary and appropriate methods for students to master the skills.
