USING TROPHIC DIATOM INDEX (TDI) FOR ASSESSING EUTROPHIC STATUS OF SOME WATER BODIES IN BEN TRE CITY, VIETNAM
Main Article Content
Abstract
The present study aims to calculate the Trophic Diatom Index (TDI) for assessing the eutrophic status of some water bodies in the Ben Tre city, Vietnam. Phytoplankton and water samples were collected at nine different stations in two fieldtrips during September, 2017 (rainy season) and April, 2018 (dry season). The results of TDI indicate that the eutrophic status of surface water in the Ben Tre city were classified as Oligotrophic and Hypertrophic. In addition, the result of Spearman's correlation show that TDIs were influenced by salinity, TDS, and NO3-. The TDI was relatively sensitive to eutrophic condition and could be used as a potential indicator for bio-monitoring of surface water in urban areas.
