A RESEARCH METHOD FOR IMPROVING PRECISION IN RADIOACTIVE ANALYSIS OF ASHED PLANT SAMPLES

Abstract

 

In this work, radioactive isotopes of 238U, 232Th, 40K in ash samples of plant using gamma spectrometer HPGe are analyzed. In analyzing environmental radioactive samples on a gamma spectrometer, low energy peaks are always difficult to handle and cause large errors due to the influence of large background at the energy peak. To improve the accuracy of the analytical results for 238U and 232Th, the separation of isotope 40K in ash samples by chemical method is used. The sample for separating 40K and the sample for containing 40K are surveyed on the gamma spectrometer. The analytical results of 238U, 232Th, and 40K before and after separation are compared. After that, the effect from the Compton continuum of 40K on the full energy peaks of 238U and 232Th in ash samples of plant is evaluated.
