Abstract

The operation of the water treatment system at the operational stage creates a range of environmental impacts: the use of energy and raw materials as emissions into the environment with large amounts of CO2, saline intrusion, and geological subsidence in the mining area. With the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) the environmental impacts can be identified to suggest solutions to control energy use and reduce waste. The study was applied at Long Hau 1 water supply plant – Long Hau Industrial Zone (Long An) with the exploitation flow of 5900 m3/day, the water treatment system of the plant has impacts in allowable limits for the geological environment in the area, but the exploitation needs rigorous evaluations to prevent possible abnormal impacts. Assessing the environmental impacts of the use of electricity and chemicals in the system can be done by estimating CO2 emissions from electricity and chemical production which is an indirect cause of the global warming. Greenhouse gases from the treatment of sludge and waste water have been forecasted to affect the environment athough there is not yet any research conducted.
