Abstract

The paper analyses the differences in the study of Marxism by two famous 20th century philosophers: Tran Duc Thao and Karl Popper. Although there are a number of similarities in origin and career, Tran Duc Thao moving from the idealism to the materialism under the influence of Marxist philosophy became a true Marxist who inherited and developed Marxism while Karl Popper left Marxism and became a firm critic of this Maxism. It is because they approached Marxism with two different directions. If Tran Duc Thao came to Marxism as a patriot of a colonial country to search for a system of revolutionary reasoning for national liberation, K. Popper stood on the reformist democracy stance of a citizen of a capitalist country to criticize this theory. However, despite any aspect they chose to study Marxism, both Karl Popper and Tran Duc Thao are passionate, “unceaseless” thinkers with a true spirit of criticism.
