Main Article Content
Abstract
The paper is inspired by an idea to establish Thanh Tam Tuyen as a novel writer. Starting with the writer's persistent/haunting concerns and queries for existence, the authors read the novel “Mu khoi” to find who refuses the system of values that belong to the substance of humanity. Based on that, the authors analyzed it and demonstrated how the intentionality influenced on forming the text. For this matter, the eidetic insight and variation (free variation or phantasievariation) were used to research the text’s inner boundaries. In addition, the paper also aims at appraising and recognizing Thanh Tam Tuyen's contributions to Southern Vietnamese urban prose in the period of 1954-1975. These matters are premises for suggesting on transforming, in the case of Thanh Tam Tuyen, from modernism to postmodern tendency. This article also contributes to indicating the position of Thanh Tam Tuyen in the context of Southern urban literature (1954-1975) in particular and modern Vietnamese literature in general.
