Abstract

Active participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) is a milestone proving the utmost importance of this Agreement regarding the national interests of the United States in the context of the harsh impacts from the 2008 financial crisis as well as the severe competition with a rising China in Asia-Pacific region. Based on the methodology of history - logic and international relations analysis, this paper will clarify the roles of TPP in the foreign policy of President Barack Obama on the aspects of trade – economics, politics – security, and the theory of power transition in international relations in order to affirm that TPP is one of the key tools of President Obama to deploy the "Pivot Policy" whose target is to increase the influence of the United States in the region. This paper contributes to research on the United States' foreign policy and the international relations in Asia – Pacific under the presidency of Barack Obama.
