COMMUNITY’S PERCEPTIONS IN CU LAO DUNG DISTRICT (SOC TRANG PROVINCE) TOWARDS THE IMPACTS OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AND THEIR NEEDS OF TOURISM PARTICIPATION

Abstract
Communities play a very important role in tourism development as destinations. This study was conducted to understand community’s perceptions towards the impacts of tourism development, the tourism participation needs of community, the relationship between community’s perceptions and their tourism participation needs in Cu Lao Dung district. A survey was used in this study. Data collected were analyzed statistically with bivariate correlate analysis. The research results show that the community in Cu Lao Dung acknowledges that tourism has positive impacts on a tourism destination’s economy, society, culture and environment, and also feels disappointed with the negative impacts of tourism on a tourism destination. The community in Cu Lao Dung appreciates the positive effects than the negative impacts of tourism on a tourism destination and has a great demand for participation in tourism. There is a positive relationship between the awareness of the community in Cu Lao Dung on the impacts of tourism development and their needs to participate
in tourism.
