EFFECTS OF THE SCHOOL-AGE POPULATION ON THE SIZE OF TEACHERS IN VIETNAM

Abstract

 

 

The size of the school-age population or the size of pupils has certain effects on the size of teachers at different levels of education. In Vietnam, in recent years, the number of school-age population and pupils of preschool and elementary school have increased significantly. However there have been many fluctuations in lower secondary and upper secondary levels. This has contributed to changing pupils -teacher ratios in each region in Vietnam. The article analyzes the size and growth rate of the school-age population, pupils-teachers ratios of each level in various regions across the country in the period of 2010-2017. Thereby, the author compares the ratios to assess the appropriateness of teachers’ size and then identifying any shortcoming that needs to be solved. The paper also suggests some proposals to the education sector in order to build educational development orientations with the actual school-age population fluctuation in each region and level in next period.
