THE MIGRATION PROCESS AND THE FORMATION OF NUNG COMMUNITY IN LIEN NGHIA TOWN, DUC TRONG DISTRICT, LAM DONG PROVINCE

Abstract

 

The history of formation and development of Lien Nghia town, Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province has been associated with the migration of Northern ethnic minorities since 1954. In particular, Nung is a standing community of residents, the second largest (after the Kinh people) population at Lien Nghia. Applying the method of community ethnographic fieldwork and archived documents, the article reports on the migration history and population characteristics of Nung community in Lien Nghia from 1954 to present. Through the migration process by 2019, there are 7,892 Nung people living in Duc Trong district, mainly in Lien Nghia town. During the process of settling down there, the life of the Nung people has changed greatly to adapt to the local natural and social environment. The research results help to explain the reasons of why the Nung people migrated to Lien Nghia and to identify the changes in the socio-economic life of the Nung community there.
