Abstract
Immediately after taking over the land of Cochinchina, the French colonial government proceeded to collect various taxes here. A myriad of taxes has been imposed such as tariffs, salt taxes, alcohol taxes, opium taxes, personal taxes, land taxes, labor taxes... Some of these taxes have existed since the Nguyen feudalism, such as taxes. relatives, land taxes, labor taxes and were regularly revised and supplemented by the French colonialists. The amount of tax that the Cochinchinese people had to pay to the colonial government often increased over time. The colonial government used the proceeds from these taxes to feed the ruling apparatus, build the infrastructure for colonial exploitation... Through research, we found that the tax policy of the French period The attributes are scientific and legal, but at the same time also quite “exhaustive”. The heavy tax policy of this period made the people of Cochinchina "impoverished" and it was also one of the causes leading to the struggles of the Cochinchinese people against the French colonial rule.
