Abstract

The paper reports the findings from a study using a survey and interviews with 3,500 Khmer households in 8 provinces with a large number of the Khmer living in Vietnam. Positive and negative impacts were identified from the survey, and interviews provided further information to understand the impacts thoroughly. The paper provided more information to evaluate the current living standards of the Khmer living in Vietnam, including changes in their living standards compared to those five years ago, the reasons why they have better living, and especially the reasons why some are still poor. This research updates information for the government to reflect on the effectiveness and impact of policies and then take appropriate actions to enhance the impacts that lead to better living standards and more feasible and appropriate solutions for each residence area to minimize the negative impacts that hinder the process of poverty reduction for people, especially the Khmer in Vietnam.
