Abstract

The article presents new challenges of the undergraduate program for French speaking tourism and proposes a project to improve the quality of the training for the Tourism division. Since 2008, a French-speaking tourism study program has been provided at the French Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. Its objective is twofold: to train students at the bachelors’ level in French language and tourism. With more than 10 years of development, this program is facing new challenges related to admission, the lack of attractiveness and information, the absence of university and socio-economic partners. These challenges require the university and the department to take actions. Looking back to the history of the program design and the emerged problems, together with personal reflections, the author proposes some measures to reform the program, as part of a project funded by the Francophonie University Association (AUF), to improve the quality of the program: revising the program in order to increase the practical aspects; promoting cooperation with Vietnamese and foreign training institutions offering tourism programs and companies in the sector; involving external stakeholders to co-train and offer double degrees.
