ABOUT A CONTRASTIVE GRAMMAR ON VERB TENSES FOR VIETNAMESE LEARNERS OF FRENCH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Verb tenses have always been one of the hard questions for a learner of French as a foreign language, especially for those whose mother tongue is not close to inflectional languages like Vietnamese, which is completely foreign to the concept of verbal tenses. This article proposes a new perspective to approach the expression of temporality in teaching French as a foreign language in the Vietnamese context: a contrastive approach based on the learner's mother tongue. We will analyse the notion of contrastive linguistics and its didactic issue, the contribution of research on language universals as well as the essential role of the semantic approach in the conception of a so-called contrastive grammar. It is also in this approach that the author of this article tries to draw the broad outlines of what could be a contrasting pedagogical grammar of verb tenses intended particularly for Vietnamese learners of French as a foreign language.
