IMPRINTS OF NEW NOVEL IN THE SOUTHERN VIETNAMESE URBAN LITERATURE (1954-1975)

Abstract
Before discussing the imprints of The New Novel in the Southern Vietnamese urban literature (1954-1975), it is believed that it should be necessary to consider The New Novels as an outstanding trend of French literature after World War II. The questioning process starts from The New Novels in French literature to the new novels by Southern writers. From there, the characteristics of the new novels are examined in interpretation, criticism and writing activities to initially identify the issue of “new novels” in Southern Vietnamese urban literature. The article can assist literature researchers in recognizing the similar movements of literary modernization process, reflecting the essential demands of reforming modern prose through the case of Southern Vietnamese urban literature (1954-1975).
