DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE PRAGMATICS CURRICULUM AND TEXTBOOK IN HIGH SCHOOLS

Abstract

 

This article analyzes the content, structure and appropriateness of the pragmatic aspect in the current curriculum to develop students’ language competence. After briefly describing the current status of the curriculum and the textbook of the current middle and high schools, the article thoroughly analyzes its disadvantages (imbalanced between middle and high school, heavy exercises on analytical and explanatory properties, too theoretical linguistic materials, textbooks with limited breakthrough for teaching methods) and proposes some points to adjust, supplement and improve the curriculum. The review and evaluation in the article also show that teachers need to choose appropriate teaching methods so that the Vietnamese language and literature will not be taught separately as they are currently.
