Abstract

The article describes advisory activities of academic advisors (AAs) and proposes some solutions to enhance the quality of advisory activities of the AAs at the Ho Chi Minh University of Education. Findings show that AAs’ self-assessment of their knowledge about the training rules according to the credit-based education system scored only at ‘nearly comprehensive’levels. AAs evaluate advisory on learning-related issues and vocational counseling as top priorities. However, the dominant method to build advisory skills for AAs is self-training. The number of students per class for which an AA was responsible is significantly different. Also, AAs rated policies as ‘not satisfying’ and ‘slightly satisfying.’ The article, therefore, proposes five solutions to enhance AAs’ advisory skills to other departments’ functions, to students, and related forms.
