PROPOSING PRINCIPLES OF SELECTING LINGUISTIC MATERIALS IN TEACHING FIGURES OF SPEECH BASED ON KRASHEN'S THEORY OF LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

Abstract

 

The article proposes some principles for selecting linguistic materials in teaching figures of speech based on Krashen's theory of language acquisition, the state of linguistic materials in current Language Arts and Literature textbooks, and the results of teaching – learning figures of speech survey. These principles are: the linguistic materials must be linked to students' background knowledge, the linguistic materials must focus on the student's unconscious acquisition, the linguistic materials must be presented according to their difficulty, the linguistic materials must create a continuous comparison between the meanings/rhetorical effects. Thereby, this article provides some suggestions in selecting and organizing the linguistic materials system to make the teaching – learning process more efficient.
