SITUATION OF EXPERIMENTAL COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS FOR GENERAL PHYSICS LAB

Abstract

 

Experimental competency is one of the important and necessary professional competencies that need to be formed and developed for physics teacher education students to meet the educational innovation needs. We conducted a survey of experimental competency for second-year students of the Physics Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education after studying the General Physics lab 1 (mechanics-thermal) organized according to the inquiry-based-learning method. The results show that the components of students' experimental competency were still at an average level. Components that were evaluated asweak are component 2-Experimental design and component 5- Improvement, manufacturing and replacement of damaged instruments, and create experimental tools. Based on the results, an inquiry based-learning method is proposed as a teaching method in the General Physics lab 1 with increasing levels of openness to develop the students’ experimental competency.
