NARRATOR IN NARRATIVE POETRY TUM TEAV (CAMBODIA)

Abstract
Narrative poetry Tum Teav is considered to be one of the prominent works in Cambodian literature. The article identifies several types of narrators based on the narrator’s point of view and reliability in the narrated world to analyze the characteristics and roles of the narrator types in narrative poetry Tum Teav as a contributing factor to the artistic success of the work from a narratology perspective. It is concluded that there are two types of narrators found in the work: omniscient narrators with a shifting point of view and unreliable narrators. The combination of two types of narrators in Tum Teav has contributed to affirming Tum Teav’s position in the flow of Cambodian literature: not only innovation in the image of the narrator but also a premise for the renewal of the narrative art of modern Cambodian literature.
