INDIA’S SOFT POWER IN THE FIRST TWO DECADES OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY – LESSON LEARNT AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR VIETNAM

Abstract

 

This paper aims to present an overview of the deployment process of the Indian soft power in the early years of the twenty-first century using related research methods used in international relations. Research results show that India has created a clear effect in building and developing soft power through many forms of deployment such as political diplomacy, economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, science and technology diplomacy, public diplomacy and Cricket diplomacy. In order to turn India into an attractive power based on soft power and able to compete with the US and China, India has carried out all the above activities and methods of deployment very flexibly with various forms. Some remarkable lessons can be drawn for Vietnam to learn and apply effectively. Furthermore, this article also proposes some recommendations to build and develop Vietnam’s soft power.
