POLITICAL AND SECURITY COOPERATION BETWEEN VIETNAM AND ASEAN (2007-2021): ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROSPECTS

Abstract

This research article examines prominent events of political and security cooperation between Vietnam and ASEAN after the year of the ASEAN Charter (2007). The author employs the historical method of Historical science in combination with the logical method and theories of Regionalism to indicate that Vietnam plays a key role in maintaining a strong network of partnership with ASEAN in regional politics and security to both gain regional and national interests. In order to deepen this relation, the author relies on occurring events and the latest foreign policies of Vietnam and ASEAN to make a prophecy for prospects of Vietnam-ASEAN political-security ties in the future.

Trieu Huy Ha is a Ph.D. candidate at Department of History, University of Social sciences and Humanties, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He is a researcher and a potential reviewer in International Relations, Vietnamese history, Indochinese history, ASEAN Community and issues of Cultural Anthropology.
