A PILOT STUDY OF THE NEED-BASED VOCATIONAL COUNSELING MODEL FOR STUDENTS IN THUC HANH HIGH SCHOOL – HO CHI MINH CITY UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION: A CASE STUDY

Abstract

 

Designing a vocational counseling model suitable for students' needs will be an important basis for them to understand careers and choose appropriate careers. The article refers to testing the model of career counseling based on students' needs, including four contents: (1) Organizing the career counseling schoolyard report at the Practicing High School, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education with thematic report; (2) Individual counseling for students in need at the school; (3) Organizing professional exchanges with the successors; (4) Organizing “My Career” tours. Vocational counseling model for high school students based on a combination of schools and other social forces. The combination of group and individual vocational counseling and the organization of field trips to learn about professions in industrial parks, factories, and enterprises is an important basis for career counseling activities to satisfy students' needs. The pilot study results demonstrate that the experimental hypothesis is accepted. After the pilot, students' need for vocational guidance counseling on labor market contents, job requirements, conditions, and psychological characteristics has been a marked change in their personal beliefs in accordance with the profession, and the need for vocational counseling has been satisfied a certain extent.
