A STUDY ON THE CORRESPONDING FORMS OF CHINESE SEPARABLE WORDS IN VIETNAMESE

Abstract
The separable words is a special linguistic phenomenon in modern Chinese. This paper examines the corresponding forms of modern Chinese separable words in Vietnamese. The results of the research on 526 commonly used separable words show that some separable words have corresponding words in Vietnamese, while others have no corresponding words in Vietnamese, and phrases are needed to express their corresponding meanings. There are four corresponding forms of the modern Chinese verb-object separable words in Vietnamese: verb, adjectives, “verb + object” phrase, and “verb + complement” phrase. There are four corresponding forms of the modern Chinese verb-complement separable words in Vietnamese: verb and “verb + complement” phrase. “Verb" and “verb + object” phrase are the two main corresponding forms in Vietnamese of the modern Chinese verb-object separable words. The main corresponding forms in Vietnamese of the modern Chinese verb- complement separable words.
