Abstract

Riddle (pơdă) is one of the genres of the folklore of the Bahnar like other genres such as fairy tales (tơdrong pơră sơ̌ki) and epics (h’mon). This is a very popular form of entertainment, and it is very popular with the Bahnar children as well. Not only does riddle entertain children, but we can also discover many ethnic cultural elements contained in them. Those are the typical elements that make up the Bahnar ethnic culture. This article presents the cultural elements in the riddle of the Bahnar ethnicity. It is the knowledge and experience of the forest, the material and spiritual values that make up the cultural characteristics of the Bahnar ethnicity such as houses, cuisine, festivals, and various types of literature (epics, rhyming speech). From the study of cultural factors in  riddle, the article aims to generalize the cultural characteristics of the Bahnar ethnicity.
