Main Article Content
Abstract
Saigon – Cho Lon became a developed town under the Nguyen Dynasty with domestic and foreign trade exchanges, but this urban area was not complete and synchronous. When France waged a war of aggression and occupied Cochinchina six provinces with the intention of annexing the whole of Vietnam and expanding its influence in the Far East, France carried out a project to build urban areas and develop infrastructure. to transform Saigon - Cho Lon into the urban center of Cochinchina with the capitalist mode of production. Using historical and logical methods, analysis and documentation, the paper presents the basic factors affecting the urbanization process of Saigon - Cho Lon that change the economic and social face of Cochinchina in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
