SPACE OF PAGODAS IN CHINESE POETRY BY NGUYEN DE, NGUYEN DU AND NGUYEN HANH
Main Article Content
Abstract
The space of pagodas is a familiar cultural space in Vietnamese life and a unique artistic space in the nation’s medieval poetry. Adapting methods in studying poetics and literary comparison combined with classification, the article analyzes the artistic characteristics and the human meaning of the pagoda space in the Chinese poetry of three authors: Nguyen De, Nguyen Du, and Nguyen Hanh. The results show that pagodas are not only spaces for reflecting the rapid change between the two timelines of “past” and “present,” but also places where people can see their presence in this world and wish to get rid of appearances/body for peace in their hearts. With this approach to art space, readers can partly see the noble and humane thoughts and the deep feelings inside each author.
