Abstract

Zen literature of the Ly–Tran dynasties and Postmodern Vietnamese literature are two literary tendencies that have attracted researchers' attention, in particular of their isolation. Even though there is an age difference, the two movements show many similarities between the East and the West, the past and the present, in ideology and form. Based on critical methodology and practicality in literary research from a comparative perspective, this article elaborates on some convincing reasons to form a novel orientation (to critically compare these subjects) and analyzes its prospects and challenges. It plays a valuable role in providing a new approach to the Zen Buddhism literature of the Ly–Tran dynasties and Postmodern Vietnamese literature. Furthermore, it might clarify the relationship between various phenomena in literary history.
