Abstract

The article uses historical and statistical methods to study rubber plantations in Tay Ninh during the French colonial period. After a trial period, rubber trees have been planted and exploited by the French for a long time in the South in general and in Tay Ninh province in particular. During the first four decades of the twentieth century, the number of rubber plantations established in Tay Ninh increased more and more both in terms of area and number of trees. It focuses on understanding some characteristics of rubber plantations about the establishment and size of the plantation, owners, farming techniques, the main source of workers working in the plantation as well as the impacts of rubber plantations to Tay Ninh's socio-economy in this period. The development of rubber plantations led to changes in crop structure, formed specialized production areas for agricultural products, expanded arable land and made new production relations as well.
