UNIQUE CONTENT AND ART OF BAHNAR’S RHYMING SPEECH

Abstract
The article briefly introduces the content and art of “rhyming speech” of the Bahnar, an ethnic group in the North Central Highlands and some mountainous districts of Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces. Rhyming speech is a special type of rhyme in the culture of the Bahnar. It has a sub-type similar to Vietnamese proverbs and idioms. Bahnar’s rhyming speeches are used in everyday communication and in ancient stories, epics, and customary law. The content of rhyming speech is rich. It reflects the vivid reality of Bahnar's past and present life. The art of rhyming speech is unique. It is both a daily speech of the Bahnar ethnic and a model for building and performing ancient stories and epics.
