Abstract

This article interpreted the problem of adequate translation of Pushkin’s prose to Vietnamese. The centre of attention is proverbs in AS ’Pushkin’s novel The ’Captain’s Daughter, which are means of understanding the nature of a Russian nobleman, his adherence to duty, benevolence, kindness, and generosity, stipulate for the peculiarity of the ’character’s discourse. Proverbs are also used as an epigraph to express a theme or idea of ’Pushkin’s novel. Translating the Russian proverbs into Vietnamese, the translator uses various methods to conserve the imagery and the semantic load of the original paremias: choosing Vietnamese equivalents and analogues, creating graphic expressions, replication, transfer the general meaning of the parable. This approach allows the reader to know the text's proverb and promotes the translation’s equivalence.
