SOME MORE OBSERVATIONS ON THE VALUE OF “JAILED IN KHÁM LỚN” BY PHAN VAN HUM
Main Article Content
Abstract
Phan Van Hum is one of the prominent names of Southern literature in the first half of the twentieth century. With the work Jailed in Khám Lớn, he created a great resonance in literature and contemporary political and social life. By applying a cultural-historical approach, an interdisciplinary approach, along with analysis and comparison techniques, the paper demonstrates that Jailed in Khám Lớn not only directly shows the harshness and injustice of the French colonial prison regime in Vietnam but also the crisis in the lives of Vietnamese people in the first half of the twentieth century from economic, social, moral and ethical aspects. Above all are the expectations of Phan Van Hum about a good society based on the concept of human philosophy.
