Abstract

This paper presents the results of investigating the production of the lotus plant in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, in the 2022 lotus crop. The results show that Binh Chanh District has three communes famous for growing lotus: Binh Loi, Da Phuoc, and Phong Phu. Among them, there are 17 lotus growing locations with 3 lotus varieties: Quan Am lotus-the most common one (21.29 hectares, accounting for 88.56%), pointy pink lotus (2.35 hectares, accounting for 9.78%), and pointy white lotus (0.4 hectares, accounting for 1.66%). The total lotus area in the investigated areas is 24.04 hectares. Binh Loi commune has two lotus varieties with the largest area (20.29 hectares, accounting for 84.40%), followed by Phong Phu commune with three lotus varieties (3.70 hectares, accounting for 15.39%). Da Phuoc commune has one type of lotus (0.05 hectares, accounting for 0.21%). Of the 24.04 hectares, the area planted with lotus on rice fields is 22.59 hectares (accounting for 94.38%), and the area planted with lotus in lakes is 1.35 hectares (accounting for 5.62%). Lotuses are grown in three main models: pure lotus growing, lotus growing combined with fish farming, and lotus growing combined with ecotourism. Based on the results, a distribution map of lotus varieties was built.
