Abstract

The article studies a romantic character in the novel entitled Mat dao. This is the work that marks the name of Luu Vi Lan and is also the best of the author’s works so far. It is a gothic war novel written in a romantic style. That roman is reflected through the main character of the novel over time, space, and other artistic elements in the novel, which is distinctive and makes his name in contemporary literature. To better understand the romantic aspects of the character, this article highlights his desire for absolute silence, connection with nature and wild creatures, and his desire for dedication to ideals through chronological, structural-systemic, biographical methods and interdisciplinary approaches.  It is to confirm that the romantic character is the embodiment of Luu Vi Lan's desire for an elegant lifestyle, isolated yet still responsible for life and history. At the same time, the article also highlights the author's originality of thought and novelty of poetry.
