Abstract

The paper presents the social context for the establishment, goals, and tasks of Thu Duc Demonstration Secondary School (THKMĐ). This was a comprehensive school - where there were enough conditions to conduct research, develop, and experiment with a modern general education curriculum learning from the general education curriculums of European and American countries while still in alignment with Vietnamese practices. It is the comprehensive secondary general education curriculum. The paper also discusses the meanings of “comprehensive secondary general education,” basic specifications, curriculum components, academic division structure at the first level (lower secondary) and the second level (upper secondary), a divisional structure at the second level, innovation of teaching methods, educational activities and student assessment while implementing the comprehensive secondary general education curriculum. Based on these, the paper also evaluates the role and contributions of Thu Duc Demonstration Secondary School to Saigon University of Education and Southern General Education before 1975.
