FACTORS AFFECTING THE SELF-DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR OF THE ADOLESCENTS IN THE SOUTHERN URBAN AREAS OF VIETNAM

Abstract
Research on factors affecting adolescents' self-destructive behavior in the Southern urban areas of Vietnam shows that the factor of ‘self-disappointment’ with 37.1%, ‘I want every family member understand my pain’ with 36.2%, ‘I am angry at my parents or other relatives so I do it to vent’ with 25.8%, the factor ‘depressed, lonely’ with 21.6%. Especially 57.7% of adolescents said that ‘I do not know why, I just want to do it’. The interview results also showed that a number of factors affect the self-destructive behavior of adolescents such as academic pressure, disappointment in themselves, parents' expectations, feeling of failure, useless, do this behavior to vent to parents or relatives or to want the parents to pay attention to themselves.
