Abstract

Truong An's Vu tich is a historical novel that reconstructs the decline of the Tay Son Dynasty and the beginning of the Nguyen Dynasty. Interwoven into that event is the fate of those born into the royal lineage, having to bear responsibility for the times and suffer cruel punishment for the sins of their ancestors. With the "master" art of narrative, the author has gone deep into the character's thoughts, breathing new life into old texts to create new semantics suitable to the character's context. Applying Narratology in terms of intertextuality, various forms of intertextuality such as quotation, appropriation, and parody were used to clarify the polyphonies and multifaceted nature of language in Trường An’s historical novel Vu tich. This paper also refers to old texts and beliefs that have been distorted, losing their original meaning, and even critical, based on the character's present-day experiences, from which to express new perspectives. Through this, the paper emphasizes the interconnection and mutual interaction of the work, uncovering new values and meanings within
the text.
