IMPACTS OF CHINA’S “MARITIME GREAT POWER” STRATEGY ON SOUTHEAST ASIAN COUNTRIES (2012-2022)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, the strategy of building China into a "maritime great power" has been officially announced. This strategy carries vital significance for China's national development, pursuit of the "Chinese dream," and goal of achieving "a moderately prosperous society in all respects." By examining official documents, policies, practical activities, and statements from Chinese leaders, this article attempts to clarify the concept of "maritime great power" within the historical context of China's maritime mindset from ancient to modern times. Furthermore, the article sheds light on the potential impacts of implementing the "maritime great power" strategy on Southeast Asian countries, particularly in terms of regional power dynamics, security considerations, and economic implications. The analysis offers a useful reference for understanding China's motives and assessing the influences on the international relations system in Southeast Asia.
