Abstract

Social-emotional competence has been an interesting topic in psychological and educational research in Vietnam. However, applying social-emotional competence to mental health care for students, including children or adolescents, has not been mentioned. This study reviews theories and empirical studies related to social-emotional competence to synthesize, analyze, and define the term “social-emotional health,” the mental health aspect of social-emotional competence in each individual. Thereby, the term “social-emotional health” and the theoretical framework of social-emotional health are defined and introduced in this article. This is an important theoretical basis for proposing research directions and establishing a theoretical framework related to social-emotional health in Vietnam.
