ONLINE SOCIAL - EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The lives and learning of high school students are increasingly taking place in and linked to cyberspace. This necessitates research and education to form digital competencies for students, including online social-emotional competence. This study was designed cross-sectionally to assess online social-emotional competence and also examine the correlation between social network usage behavior and online social-emotional competence among 389 high school students. Survey results show that students' online social-emotional competence is at an average level (M=3.09). In addition, data from in-depth interviews shows that social networks have a two-way impact on students’ online social-emotional competence which in turn is a key factor in preventing the negative impact of social networks on students' mental health. The findings in this study are an important theoretical and practical foundation for further research on online social-emotional competencies and expand understanding of the application of online social-emotional competencies in the field of Vietnamese Psychology and Educational Psychology.
