Abstract

Through applying discourse theory by Michel Foucault with the trauma theory of some researchers such as Cathy Caruth, and Michelle Balaev… to clarify the characteristics and methods of discourse of trauma in childhood narratives within the scope of Nguyen Quynh Trang’s novels. This paper illustrates the characteristics of trauma discourse in terms of feelings of loss, feelings of dependence and redundancy, and loss of faith. In addition, this paper also explains how to construct trauma discourse through narrative elements such as viewpoint, and autobiographical elements. The article is expected to contribute to the expression and interaction of works in trauma literature with era context. Moreover, this article will represent the writer’s style of Nguyen Quynh Trang in trauma literature.
