Abstract

Jrai ethnic minority students in Grades 1 to 3 in Ia Hrung Commune, Gia Lai Province, frequently encounter spelling errors of the Vietnamese language due to the influence of their mother tongue. Developing a system of corrective exercises is a necessary and contextually appropriate solution to address this issue. This paper discusses the theoretical and practical foundations for designing spelling exercises tailored for Jrai students in Grades 1 to 3 in Ia Hrung. The exercises are based on research identifying common orthographic errors, which stem largely from language interference and habitual use of the mother tongue. This study serves as an important step toward constructing a pedagogically effective, context-sensitive, and feasible exercise system. The exercises are grounded in theories of language interference, analyzing the phonological, morphological, and syllabic influences of Jrai on Vietnamese writing. By integrating contrastive linguistics, the proposed exercise system combines scientific rigor with high pedagogical relevance.
