PRINCIPLES FOR COUNSELING AND SUPPORTING FIRST AND SECOND GRADERS IN WRITING SENTENCES AND SHORT PARAGRAPHS

Abstract
This article clarifies the concepts of counseling and supporting first and second graders in writing sentences and short paragraphs. It explores instructional activities related to these writing tasks within the Vietnamese language curriculum for early primary education. Based on this analysis, the article proposes principles for effective counseling and support, which include: (a) emphasizing preventive measures to ensure writing goals are achieved; (b) respecting the psychological, cognitive, and development characteristics of all first and second graders, as well as the specific features of sentence and short paragraph writing activities; and (c) providing different counseling and support strategies tailored to various groups or individual students. The research findings contribute to enhancing the theoretical and practical foundation for counseling and supporting students in early writing instruction, thereby improving the quality of Vietnamese language teaching and students’ communication skills.
