SYNTHESE OF ALUMINIUM-BASED METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORK WITH SULFONIC GROUP AND APPLICATION IN THE ADSORPTION OF METHYLENE BLUE DYE FROM AQUEOUS MEDIUM
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this work, a sulfonic-functionalized Al-based metal-organic framework, namely BUT-8(Al) (BUT: Beijing University of Technology), was successfully fabricated from combining between 4,8-disulfonaphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic linker and Al3+ salt via the solvothermal method. In particular, the maximum Methylene Blue (MB) adsorption capacity onto BUT-8(Al) is 1699.2 mg·g-1 at pH = 8, much higher than previously published MOF materials. Also, the obtained data of the MB removal is fitted with Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order models, revealing that the MB uptake over BUT-8(Al) is a chemical adsorption. Interestingly, the structural robustness of BUT-8(Al) is retained after adsorption, with the uptake performance of MB by about 92% over seven recycles. These findings indicate that BUT-8(Al) could be an effective absorbent in removing MB dye from wastewater.
