Abstract

MoET’s 2018 Language and Literature Curriculum, with its emphasis on genre theoretical approach in teaching reading comprehension, has presented many challenges for teachers and students, particularly in lessons concerning the genre of drama—a genre that had not received adequate attention in previous curricula. This article suggests a detailed description of drama as a literary genre and a framework of approaching dramatic texts in teaching drama reading comprehension in high school level to meet the curriculum’s requirements. It also contributes an in-depth analysis of Vũ Như Tô by Nguyễn Huy Tưởng, combining abtract categorisations with detailed and concrete interpretations of the tragedy as a specific sample text. From this perspective, high-school teachers and students are provided with useful suggestions to organize reading comprehension sessions in the current curriculum.
