THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIRTUAL REALITY TOURISM: CONTEXT, APPLICATION AND PROSPECTS FOR TOURISM BUSINESSES IN HO CHI MINH CITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to explore the current state of virtual reality tourism development in Ho Chi Minh City, analyze tourism businesses’ perceptions of the role and potential of this technology. The study surveyed 260 tourism businesses in Ho Chi Minh City using convenience sampling techniques. The results show that basic forms of virtual reality tourism have begun to appear in the city; however, their development remains limited despite the presence of many support policies. Although businesses recognize virtual reality tourism as valuable for destination promotion and the enhancement of tourist experiences, they do not yet perceive it as an effective means of substantially improving business efficiency. In addition, virtual reality tourism is seen as a temporary solution in special situations and support for the tourism industry. Based on the research results, several recommendations are proposed to promote the exploitation of virtual reality tourism, including enhancing business awareness, investing in technology development and digital content, building support policies by relevant authorities, and investigating customer behavior to optimize the experience.
